Itinerary

Day 1 – Arrival in Peebles

Your holiday begins today in Edinburgh, where the Tour Manager will greet you at Waverley Station. From here, you can take one of two coach shuttles to Peebles, departing at 2 PM and 5 PM. Peebles is a little town located on the banks of the River Tweed in the Scottish Borders and after checking into our hotel here, the group meets for dinner this evening.

Includes
  • Dinner
Day 2 – The Bo'ness and Kinneil Railway, Kelpies, and Edinburgh Tattoo

After breakfast, you're at leisure to discover Peebles this morning. This afternoon, we head by coach to Bo'ness to board the Bo'ness and Kinneil Railway for a round trip in one of the restored locomotives.* We pass the Forth Estuary, through woodlands, by waterfalls and over the Avon Viaduct. After soaking up the Scottish countryside by heritage rail, we rejoin the coach bound for Edinburgh. On the way, we stop at the Kelpies and there's time to take some photos before our coach continues to Edinburgh. You're at leisure in Scotland's capital to get some dinner and explore before our Edinburgh Military Tattoo experience.

It's easy to find restaurants and pubs anywhere in the city centre, however, if there's a particular place you'd like to eat, we recommend booking in advance to avoid disappointment.

This evening, we settle into our seats for the Edinburgh Military Tattoo. This remarkable event happens every year and brings together music, entertainment, and ceremonial performances. Watch in awe at the Scottish regiments' pipers and drummers performing together, the Massed Bands of the Royal Marines, and a firework show - all with Edinburgh Castle illuminated behind them. After this spectacle, the coach takes us back to our hotel in Peebles late this evening.

*Trains are steam-hauled where possible, however due to timetable changes or weather conditions, heritage diesel locomotives may be running instead.

Includes
  • Breakfast, Lunch
Day 3 – Afternoon tea at Floors Castle

Late this morning a coach takes us to the market town of Kelso. Arriving at Floors Castle, we are treated to a traditional afternoon tea in the beautiful grounds. Afterwards, you can explore the house and its Victorian Walled Gardens at your own pace. Wander through atmospheric woodland grounds or discover the collection of fine art, porcelain, tapestries, grand rooms and views over the River Tweed. We return to our hotel later this afternoon and you have some time to relax before dinner.

Includes
  • Breakfast, Dinner
Day 4 – Homeward bound

It's time to bid farewell to Peebles after breakfast this morning. We journey by coach to Edinburgh Waverly station, where your holiday ends. Make your way home or take the opportunity to explore more of the area and add to the memories of our stay in Peebles.

Includes
  • Breakfast

Great hotel - food, surroundings, accommodation, service. SE Scotland has some beautiful countryside and the coach driver took us on different roads each time we travelled from Edinburgh to Peebles to allow us to enjoy the views. Floors Castle visit was a first and was well worth the visit. The Falkirk wheel ride was also a first and unexpected trip, excellent experience and views. The Tattoo as always was great and we hope to go again another year.

17:00 hr pick up time at Edinburgh Waverley meant we had dinner as soon as we arrived at Peebles Hotel, with no opportunity to meet the other guests on the same trip. Too much organised for Day 2, especially given that he Tattoo was a late finish.
