Getting to St Moritz

Flight from London to Zurich

Your epic journey begins today when you take your flight to Zurich. On arrival in Zurich, you'll take the train from the airport to Chur. From Chur your train journey climbs into the breathtaking mountains before arriving in chic St Moritz. The first winter sports destination in the world, and known for being a glamourous ski town where the rich and famous holiday, St Moritz is also a place of outstanding alpine beauty.

Alternatively, take the train all the way from London on the more scenic route. You'll take the Eurostar from London St Pancras and relax as your smooth and speedy journey takes you to Paris Nord. From Paris Gare du Lyon you'll travel to Basel where you'll spend the night. The next morning you'll travel from Basel to Chur and from Chur you'll take the train up into the mountains to reach glitzy St Moritz.

Day 2 – The Bernina Express

The Bernina Express

Get ready for a very special train journey today as you board the Bernina Express, a 100 year old route that's been awarded UNESCO World Heritage status. You'll make your way through tunnels and over bridges, including the landmark Landwasser Viaduct, with deep ravines below you and picturesque waterfalls by your window. The rugged landscape of the Engadine Valley passes by your window, before this historic route takes you through the Albula Tunnel and over the Bernina Pass, then descends towards Poschiavo, the Italian-speaking region of Switzerland. Pastel painted houses line the street as you cross into Italy. This spectacular journey ends in Tirano, where the return journey begins back to St Moritz.

Day 3 – The Glacier Express

The Glacier Express

Today you'll board another iconic train on another epic rail route. Aboard the grand Glacier Express, you'll travel in a classic carriage or upgrade to first class or excellence class. First class gives you more space to stretch out and fewer passengers in your carriage, while excellence class gives you a truly special journey with guaranteed window seats, a five course menu with pairing wines for each course, and a dedicated concierge. Whichever class you choose, your carriage benefits from panoramic windows.

You'll first climb up to the winter ski resort of Andermatt, and into the snow-capped mountains. The train then reaches its highest point before descending along the beautiful Rhone Valley slowly and steadily. On 'The Slowest Express Train in the World', you'll travel through classic Swiss scenes of green meadows and turquoise river gorges, before arriving in the car-free town of Zermatt in the early evening. At a supplement you can choose to enjoy a two course, or three course, lunch onboard the historic Glacier Express train. On arrival in Zermatt, you'll transfer to your chosen hotel, either 3*, 4* or 5*, on a B&B basis.

Day 4 – Exploring Zermatt

Exploring Zermatt

Today you can enjoy a free day in Zermatt and get to know this car-free village in the mountains. Breathtaking views of the iconic Matterhorn dominate the landscape, and you can explore by traveling by rail, on the Gornergrat Railway, or by cable-car, to the higher mountains. Take a walk around the village centre, where you'll find many restaurants, cafes and bars, or take one of the hiking trails nearby for a good walk. Alternatively, choose from our optional excursions, available at a supplement.

Zermatt to Montreux

Day 5 – Zermatt to Montreux

Zermatt to Montreux

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast in your hotel this morning, before it's time to take the train from Zermatt to Montreux. From the comfort of your seat you can watch the altering landscapes pass by your window as your journey takes you into the beautiful Rhone Valley, before arriving in the pretty lakeside town of Montreux. On arrival in Montreux you'll be transferred to your hotel. Choose between our 3*, 4* and 5* hotels, on a B&B basis. Spend the afternoon relaxing in your hotel or take a stroll around Montreux to get to know this pretty town better. Or choose one of our optional excursions.

Enjoy some free time in Montreux this morning. Go shopping for any last minute souvenirs, or take a walk by the lake and soak up the atmosphere. Stop for a coffee and watch the slow pace of local life go by.

After your relaxed morning in Montreux, it's time to embark on the next part of your great journey aboard the GoldenPass Express. This enthralling rail journey travels through Switzerland's stunning landscapes, showing you the country's diverse beauty through the train's panoramic windows. Enjoy lush valleys, serene lakes, charming villages, and majestic mountains, before arriving Interlaken, the gateway of adventure in the heart of the Bernese Oberland region. On arrival in Interlaken, you'll be transferred to your hotel for the night. Choose from our 3*,4* and 5* hotels, which you'll stay in on a B&B basis.

Day 7 – The Jungfrau Region

The Jungfrau Region

Today you can take a free day in Interlaken to get to know the town between two lakes better. Take a boat trip on one of the two beautiful lakes, or ride in a horse-drawn carriage around the pretty town. Stroll the streets and shop for souvenirs, or relax with a drink at one of the many cafes. Alternatively, choose one of our optional excursions, available at a supplement.

The Interlaken Express to Lucerne

Day 8 – The Interlaken Express to Lucerne

The Interlaken Express to Lucerne

Today you'll continue your epic adventure as you take the Interlaken Express train from Interlaken to Lucerne. Relax in your seat on this two hour journey through stunning Swiss landscapes. Get your camera ready as you pass five tranquil lakes, waterfalls, streams, and the towering snowy mountains that rise all around you. The train switches to cogwheel train technology as you approach the steep gradient to Brunig Pass. On arrival in Lucerne you'll be transferred to your hotel. Choose between our 3*, 4* and 5* hotels on a B&B basis.

Inbound Travel

Day 10 – Homeward Bound

Flight from Zurich to London

Your incredible journey comes to its close today when you take the train from Lucerne to Zurich airport for your flight back to the UK.

Or, choose to take a leisurely rail journey all the way home and travel by train from Lucerne to Basel, from Basel to Paris Gare du Lyon, and from Paris Nord to London St Pancras aboard the Eurostar.
