You'll begin your adventure by flying from London to Singapore. This is an overnight flight on Singapore Airlines or British Airways.

Arrival in Singapore

Singapore welcomes you to its bright and busy arena with open arms. Known as 'the lion city' it's actually a nation and state all of its own, independent of Malaysia since 1965. Today the country attracts visitors from all over the world who want to shop, have fun, and sip a few Singapore slings. It's famous for its street food and chefs clamber for the chance to create the kind of cuisine diners queue up for. Experience Singapore's hospitality when you transfer to your hotel for the night.

Optional Excursions available this evening include a private food trail walking tour which gives you the opportunity to try out some of Singapore's diverse cuisine, or a night out at Singapore Marina, each optional excursion are bookable at a supplement.

Enjoy a free day in Singapore, exploring at your leisure, or choose one of our optional excursions below which are bookable at a supplement.

Our Private Half Day tour, "The Many faces of Singapore" will introduce you to you the diverse cultures of the Indian, Malay and Chinese heritage of the city. Alternatively, you may want a more leisurely afternoon, relaxing in Raffles with a classic Afternoon Tea.

Day 4 – The Eastern & Oriental Express

Board the striking green and cream carriages of the Eastern & Oriental Express at Woodlands Station, Singapore, and settle into your air-conditioned cabin, a sanctuary of cherrywood panelling, Thai silks and Malaysian embroidery. As the train travels through lush green landscapes, you'll weave through tangled jungle and rubber and palm plantations, while your steward serves a healthy afternoon tea. When evening falls, dinner is served in the Dining Car, where you'll enjoy sustainable dishes, using herbs and plants sourced from remote regions. Then relax with a nightcap and the evening's onboard entertainment.

Day 5 – Tigers and Taman Negara National Park

After breakfast in your cabin, admire the views of the Jungle Line as the train travels through some of the wildest parts of Malaysia. Following lunch on board, you arrive at Merapoh station and alight for an extraordinary experience. Discover the "tiger territory" of Taman Negara National Park, meeting local villagers and organisations who are working on the ground to protect this noble, critically endangered wild cat and its habitat. Taman Negara was formed 130 million years ago, making it one of the oldest tropical rainforests in the world. The dense jungle, wide rivers and lush mountains are home to wildlife ranging from water buffalo to macaques, tapirs to hornbills. Returning to the train, dinner awaits, followed by a lively evening with local entertainment in the Piano Bar Car.

Penang Island

Day 6 - Penang Island and Butterworth

Penang Island

Enjoy breakfast and lunch on board, before alighting for the crossing to Penang Island. Here, you have a choice of excursions that make the most of Malaysia's cultural melting pot. Art lovers can explore Georgetown Old Quarter with a guide, delving into temples, a contemporary studio and an opera and puppet house. Foodies can embark on a discovery of Peranakan cooking, purchasing specialities from spice and grocery stores before mastering local dishes in a cookery class. Or, for those who prefer to explore independently, take a tri-shaw, a driver and a map, and wind through Georgetown's enchanting streets and visit its attractions. Rejoin the train at Butterworth for the final evening on board with quality cuisine and entertainment.

Day 7 - Johor

Johor

Enjoy breakfast as you travel through the southernmost state of Johor, before the train crosses the strait to Singapore, where you disembark with your magical memories.

Inbound Travel

Day 8 - Singapore to London

Your personalised tour ends with your transfer to the airport and your direct flight back to London.
